This season’s bridal gowns are reflecting new looks that one fashion writer termed “more Kate and less Kim.” Many gowns are reflecting more traditional looks and a bit of classic charm.

Gowns are showing more coverage. Not necessarily Kate Middleton’s long sleeves, but cap sleeves are being shown along with illusion necklines for those brides who want more coverage than strapless gowns provide.

Longer veils are back in vogue after being absent for a period. In a survey of brides, 75% reported they plan to wear a veil, with preferences for floor length or longer.

Many brides are selecting gowns with less “bling” and focusing on fabulous accessories like jewelry and shoes. More and more brides are choosing satin shoes dyed in one of their wedding accent colors or the ever-popular bridal blue.

One “Kim” trend that persists is the change-up: A bride chooses one gown for the actual walk down the aisle and exchange of vows, then either makes adaptations to that gown for the reception (for example, a skirt and train that are removable just above the knees – we have one of those gowns here at the Shoppe!) or wears a second, more informal gown for the reception.

One national trend that we haven’t seen much of here in the South is bridesmaids in white (thank you, Pippa).

Brides continue to create personalized weddings with signature colors, monogrammed items, and motifs to set and reinforce the theme of the event. Whether your style is Kim, Kate, or somewhere in between, the experienced bridal consultants at the Quality Shoppe can help you find just the right dresses to fit your style and budget!
